Cyanotype Experiment: Sand and Sea

Cyanotype experiments continued. This one’s Sand and Sea, inspired by artist Meghann Riepenhoff. I took my paper in a black bag to the shore, letting the waves, wind and sand shape the exposure naturally.

Exposure 1.15hrs.Sand anchoring the paper.
I used a small amount of vinegar in the wash back at studio AKA laundry.

Both above exposure 1hr.
Let the water wash over the paper. It was super windy, with sand constantly swirling across the surface of the paper.
Wash with white vinegar.

30min exposure. Allowed the water to settle and swirl over paper and the sand settled over paper.

This is my favourite.
I love the patterns shaped by the movement of water and sand.

Letting the elements shape the process was a real freedom. Just going with it and seeing what happens.

I love the tones but want more contrast. Need better light-tight transport, and on a windy day, an assistant is a must!
